Reptet Record Release Party - AGENDACIDE!

New Reptet Release: Agendacide
Record Release Party w/ Orkestar Zirkonium

Thursday, November 19th 2009
9pm - $8
The Tractor Tavern
5213 Ballard Ave NW

“This Seattle sextet does it all: it grooves, it rocks, it squawks - occasionally, it even talks. Mostly, it sounds like a New Orleans jazz band on crystal meth.”
- Jazziz Magazine

“The manically fun Reptet make new music by merrily hopping around the history of jazz.”
– The Stranger

Monktail Records and Reptet are pleased to announce the release of Reptet’s new 7” vinyl record/digital release entitled Agendacide, available online and in stores on October 27th.

Reptet will be performing original music from the record and other new compositions at their record release party, held at The Tractor Tavern. The event will also include a performance by Orkestar Zirkonium, the Balkan-inspired, mobile, brass-and-drum troupe.

Agendacide is being released as a digital download and 7” red vinyl record, and features stunning cover art by the late great jazz illustrator, Jim Flora. The record was produced by Reptet and features a guest appearance by the world-renowned composer/keyboardist Wayne Horvitz on Hammond organ. Recorded in January of 2009 by Doug Haire (Leslie Dalaba, Wally Shoup) at Jack Straw Productions in Seattle. Overdubs, mixing and mastering were done by Mell Dettmer (Eyvind Kang, Mr. Bungle, Skerik’s Syncopated Taint) at Alpha Studios and Sinister Kitchen, Seattle. The recording and production of Agendacide were made possible, in part by the Jack Straw Artists Support Program.

FIGEATER

FIGEATER

October 20 / 9 pm

Rendezvous Jewel Box Theater

2322 2nd Ave

Performing Unit: Special Fig

"Clarinetist/composer Beth Fleenor bases her cargo-cult band on the arrival of unhinged, uncorked, unkempt provocations from a small, raucous band of collaborators. Expect some wailin', some keening, and some siren-singing, too." - Earshot Jazz

Disjunctive, raucous, soaring, and powerful - Figeater is a textural, tribal exploration of organic movement, instigated by clarinetist/composer Beth Fleenor.

Improvisations are punctuated, buttoned and launched by original compositions and songlike psychedelic episodes, with an emphasis on enviornmental participation. It has been called sonic spelunking - or an all improvised fun time.

"Daringly, {Figeater} was down right pretty, not a term often associated with free improv...while later it was visceral, convulsive and more than a bit creepy..." - Seattle Weekly

In her premiere role as Artistic Director, Paris Hurley (Degenerate Art Ensemble, Kultur Shock) brings together colalborators Ezra Dickinson (Zoe Scofield, The Maureen Whiting Company), Jamie Iacoli (iacoli & mcallister), Brian McAllister (iacoli & mcallister), Tilla Kuenzli (The Maureen Whiting Company), Amanda Moore, and Paurl Walsh (Degenerate Art Ensemble, X-Ray Press) in a visceral multimedia performance.

A girl, an airport, and the things that can happen while waiting frame this in-depth exploration of what it means to be human, highlighting the interconnectivity of nouns and the weight of perception. Original music, movement, animation and a sculptural audio/visual set encapsulate audience members within a textural world made of post-its, plastic and string. Shoes are adopted and abandoned. Imaginary kitchens are traversed.

Blurring the lines between co-existing realities, the piece pulls from universally shared experiences and sentiments, inviting participants to step into a world where people are bubbles, bags travel, and unconventional body parts take precedent.

What's with the Bunnies?

Well, after years of working tirelessly in the traditional channels and mediums of publicity and promotion, The Frank Agency came to an obvious conclusion - to really get people's attention, and reach audiences directly, it may be more effective to just dress like a giant rabbit and give stuff out on the street...we call it "hand to hand combat."
